While we are proud of the work we have done since our founding in Fall 2015, we believe the best is yet to come. Following the BruinsVote! campaign to encourage students to vote in the 2016 elections, where we will be registering over 15,000 student to vote, our organization is setting our sights on familiar and new horizons.
Municipal Elections-May 16th, 2017
With the ever changing landscape at the state and federal levels, many policy and political strategists believe local government is becoming ever more important and visible for creating sustainable change. With, for example, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and the City Council up for election, V4F will be ensuring that students have the opportunity to become informed and cast their ballot in both the primary (March 7th) and general (May 16th) municipal elections in 2017
Further Institutionalizing Voter Registration at UCLA
While we have already worked with the UCLA Administration to institutionalize voter registration at move-in weekend, volunteer day, in the residence halls, and on prominent campus webpages, this is only the beginning of our work to ensure students will always have the chance to participate in our democracy. Starting November 9th, 2016, V4F will be working to ingrain many other voter registration opportunities in a variety of avenues at UCLA.
High School Outreach
V4F strongly believes that activism starts long before an indivudal enters the workforce or attends UCLA. It is our mission to work with the LAUSD and local high schools to ensure that young adults in the Los Angeles Area understand the political process and their voting rights. It is our goal to register as many possible eligible high school juniors and seniors to vote before election day on a consistent basis in the upcoming years.
UCLA Student Government Elections
During the 2017 UCLA Student Government (USAC) Elections, V4F will be play a prominent role in ensuring that students have the opportunity to cast their ballot and make an informed decision on the important issues in our community. While the organization's main focus in the past has been local, state, and federal elections, V4F believes that student government elections are also important, for never will students have the opportunity to be so close to the election process and their elected officials, which sets a lasting impression on students' views of government and politics in general.
